Rose 'Mister Lincoln'

A Classic Red Rose of Regal Beauty and Powerful Perfume

Experience one of the world’s most beloved red roses with Rose 'Mister Lincoln', a true icon among Hybrid Teas. Revered for its strikingly deep, velvety crimson blooms and strong, damask fragrance, 'Mister Lincoln' is the perfect choice for gardeners who appreciate timeless elegance, powerful perfume, and exceptional garden performance.

Bred in the United States and released in 1964, this award-winning rose has long held a cherished place in Australian gardens — and it's easy to see why. Each long-stemmed flower unfurls in classic hybrid tea fashion, revealing large, perfectly shaped petals that hold their colour even in the heat. The bloom's rich, deep red hue contrasts beautifully against dark green, leathery foliage, making it a standout in any rose bed or floral arrangement.

Here in Toowoomba and across the Darling Downs, ‘Mister Lincoln’ performs exceptionally well. It tolerates warm summers, benefits from our cooler nights, and thrives with regular feeding and full sun. Whether you're creating a formal rose garden, a romantic feature bed, or simply adding structure and fragrance to your landscape, this variety offers both beauty and resilience.

Growing Tips for Toowoomba Gardeners:

Plant 'Mister Lincoln' in a position with at least 6 hours of sun per day. It prefers well-drained, enriched soil. In the Toowoomba region, apply a balanced rose fertiliser in early spring and again after flowering flushes. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage repeat flowering throughout the season. This rose responds well to winter pruning, which helps maintain its upright, elegant form.

To help manage occasional black spot or mildew, especially during humid periods, ensure adequate airflow and consider using a preventative rose spray when necessary. Mulching in spring helps conserve moisture and suppress weeds around the base.

  • Feature planting in garden beds or borders
